Switzerland kicked off their UEFA Euro 2024 campaign with a rather comfortable 3-1 win against Hungary on June 15, and joined Germany as the joint Group A toppers. The Granit Xhaka-led Switzerland side dominated much of the play in the first half, where Kwadwo Duah and Michel Aebischer gave the side a healthy 2-goal lead in the first half, with Breel Embolo sealing the win in stoppage time. Hungary did try a late comeback into the game on top of a Barnabas Varga goal late into the second half, but it
was just not enough to carry his side through.
Hungary, who were picked as one of the promising underdogs for UEFA Euro 2024, struggled to maintain even a whole minute of possession against Switzerland in the first half. On the other hand, Switzerland started off the match with a clear attacking intent and were consistently focusing their gameplay in front of the Hungary goal. Duah’s goal from the 12-minute mark set the dominating tone for the Switzerland side in this game.
