Hyderabad: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur will flag off the Formula E Championship along with Union Tourism Minister Kishan Reddy in Hyderabad on February 11. Mr Thakur will arrive at Begumpet airport this afternoon.
Hyderabad city is set to join the elite list when it hosts India’s first ever Formula E-race Hyderabad E-Prix at the ‘Hyderabad Street Circuit’ on the banks of the picturesque Hussain Sagar Lake and NTR Marg. The fourth round of the ninth season will be held later today. This is also the first motorsport event in the country in the last 10 years. Hyderabad is the 27th city in the world to host the race
which is the first non-carbon emission event.
The 2.83 km street circuit will have Gen3 race cars moving with a maximum speed with 22 drivers from 11 teams competing for the top honours. Meanwhile, the drivers from 11 racing teams had a feel of the track when they took their cars out for a practice session ahead of Free Practice 1.
The main race of the event will be held in the afternoon post-Free Practice 2 and Qualifying Race in the morning session. Meanwhile, police have announced several traffic diversions and alternated routes for the normal public in view of the ongoing event.
