In the US Open, season's Final Grand Slam, few upsets were recorded overnight as 4th seed Alexander Zverev, 8th seed Jo Wilfried Tsonga and women's fifth seed Caroline Wozniacki all crashed out in the second round.
In the men's singles, Alexander Zverev, the German player tipped to be one of the final favourites was out-foxed by 61st ranked Croatian Borna Coric 6-3, 5-7, 6-7, 6-7 in the 2nd round. While qualifier Canadian Denis Shapovalov stunned number 8 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 to reach the third round.
In the women's singles, unseeded Russian Ekaterina Makarova defeated two time US
Open Finalist Caroline Wozniacki 6-2, 6-7, 6-1 to advance to the third round. While, two time winner Venus Williams, returning from a drug ban Maria Sharapova and 3rd seed Garbiñe Muguruza have all advanced to the 3rd round.
Indian players Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna will also begin their Doubles campaign today. In Women's doubles, India-China pair of Sania Mirza and Peng Shuai will take on Croatian professionals Petra Martić and Donna Vekić.
In Men's doubles, Rohan Bopanna with his Uruguayan Partner will take on American couples Bradley Klahn and Scott Lipsky.
