Vinesh Phogat’s uncle Mahavir Phogat said that the Indian wrestler will be welcomed like a “gold medallist” when she returns to her hometown. Luck hasn’t favoured Vinesh off late after the 29-year-old could not win a medal in the Paris Olympics 2024.
After being disqualified before her gold-medal bout, Vinesh appealed for her silver medal to be retained. But on Wednesday, the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) turned down the appeal.
Vinesh
recently retired from wrestling, but Mahavir said that he will try and convince her to participate in the Los Angeles Games in 2028.
"We were hopeful that the verdict will be in our favour but there is no scope for anything after the verdict given by the CAS. When Vinesh returns on the 17th, we will welcome her like a Gold Medallist. We will try to persuade her to prepare for the 2028 Olympics. We will also prepare Sangeeta Phogat and Ritu Phogat for the 2028 Olympics," Mahavir told ANI.
