World No.6 Ons Jabeur took her revenge on Elena Rybakina in the Wimbledon 2023 women’s singles quarter-final on Wednesday, July 12. Jabeur advanced to the semi-final after beating the defending champion 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-4 on Centre Court in an hour and 53 minutes.
Back in 2022, it was Rybakina who defeated Jabeur in the final after rallying back from a set down. This time around, Jabeur returned the
favour.
Jabeur fetched herself a set point in the first set, but Rybakina held her nerve to win the set. But from the second set onwards, Jabeur did not allow her opponent much breathing space. In the third and final set, Jabeur broke Rybakina’s serve twice.
Jabeur will next be up against Belarus’s Aryna Sabalenka, who made her way through to her second Wimbledon semi-final after beating USA’s Madison Keys.
