The State government is leaving no stone unturned to make the mega event, the ISTAF World Cup Sepak Takraw Championship, a grand success which is scheduled to start at the GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium in Gachibowli from November 2 to 5.

The preparations are on a fast track but the good news was that the Pakistan team was given green signal when their players were given visas to participate in the event.

Speaking at the poster release function, State Minster for Sports and Youth Affairs T Padma Rao said that the event is being hosted for the first time in the country and they are

determined to make it a huge success. “The event will see 16 countries participating in the men’s category and 12 in the women’s category. The Stadium is getting ready.

We have given a budget of Rs 20 lakh for the event. We will provide all the support that is needed for this big tournament. It is a proud moment for the State,” he said on Friday.

The tournament will be played on league-com-knockout basis on two courts. The matches will be telecast live on Doordarshan, Doordarshan Sports channels and the entry for the spectators is free.
