The men's team lost to formidable China in the pre-quarter-final on Thursday, marking the end of India's World Table Tennis Championships campaign.

With an easy 3-0 victory over the Indian squad, mighty China advanced to the quarterfinals.

Left-handed Manav Thakkar was replaced by Manush Shah in the Indian lineup, while the Chinese lined up Wang Chuquin, the world's No. 11 left-hander, to play Manush in the third singles.

The match began with

Harmeet Desai against Fan Zhendong, but in just 15 minutes, the world number one Chinese defeated him by scores of 11-2, 11-9, and 11-5.

Next on the Chinese firing line was G. Sathiyan, ranked 37th, facing Ma Long. The multiple Olympic and World Championship medallist Chuquin finished the contest rather quickly, allowing just five points in the second and none in the third to post a 14-12, 11-5, 11-0 win.

India's misery ended when Wang Chuquin beat Manush Shah 11-4, 11-5, 11-6.
