The All India Institute of Medical Science—AIIMS Delhi organised a conference on the occasion of the 39th National Eye Donation Fortnight in New Delhi yesterday.

National Eye Bank Chairperson, Dr. Radhika Tandon, chaired the conference and highlighted the importance of cornea transplantation and the need for public awareness. Dr Tandon spoke against the stigma around eye-donation and said that it can give a new lease of

life to many.

National Eye Bank Officer-in-Charge, Dr. Tushar Aggarwal, said cornea donation levels have increased after the slump during the Covid pandemic, with around 1700 transplants this year. He also added that the institute has integrated artificial intelligence in the identification of the corneal health of a patient with the help of the local-level Asha workers.
