Chennai: A Tamil comedian named Mayilsamy grabbed the headlines for an unusual gift that he gave to a newly-married couple recently.
Photos have gone viral where he is seen giving two cans of petrol to the couple at the ceremony that amused everybody who was present there. They were shared on Twitter by a columnist named Manobala Vijayabalan.
The comedian did so in order to take a jibe at the fuel prices that have been rising at an unprecedented. According to the News Minute, Mayinsamy spoke to local news organizations, including Thanthi TV, to explain his actions. He stated that he gave the gift to raise concerns over the rising prices.
Not only that, he even applauded the Tamil Nadu government for not following suit as the
petrol prices have been on the lower side in the state. This comes after the state's finance minister, PT Palanivel Thiagarajan, announced that the prices will be slashed by Rs 3 and Tamil Nadu was bear the costs of the same.
For obvious reasons, these photos went viral not just on the microblogging site, but on other social media platforms as well. Amused by the gesture, netizens reacted in the comments section. One user called it a "mass n a good n a useful gift though." Many others used laughter emoji to describe the photos.
The famous comedian has contested the state elections earlier as well. He was an independent candidate from the Virugambakkam constituency. Also, he revealed that he is a follower of previous chief ministers Jayalalithaa and MG Ramachandran
