A 37-year-old IT professional from Bavdhan was duped of ₹18.64 lakh by four fraudsters who promised him a job, said officials.
The accused have been identified as Joseph, Rinku Alekznader, Aman Shrivastav and Manish, said officials.
According to the complaint filed by Bhupesh Tukaram Nehete, on November 23, he received a call from accused Joseph who is representative of Rankfuture company. He told him that his profile has been shortlisted and sent Oracle company and demanded money in order to be selected for the job.
The complainant paid ₹18.64 lakh via various transactions between February 21 and November 23. He repeatedly called the accused about
the job, but the accused switched off his phone, this is when Nehete realised he was duped and approached the police, said officials.
Ganesh Kharge, police inspector at Hinjewadi police station said, “The victim was lured by high salary and against which accused demanded money to arrange interview and issue offer letter.’’
As per the complaint we have registered a case against four accused, there are chances that more people are involved in the case, said Kharge.
A case under sections 420 (cheating and dishonesty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other relevant sections of the Indian Information Technology Act 2000 has been registered.
