Hyderabad: Cracking its whip on private tourist bus operators in Telangana violating the Central Motor Vehicle Rules by plying buses registered in Arunachal Pradesh, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) seized eight buses and booked cases against eight more buses in the wee hours of Thursday.

The action came as part of a special drive that was conducted at several places including Rajendra Nagar, LB Nagar, Vanasthalipuram, Peddamberpet, Medchal, Kompally and Alampur.

“All these buses belong to well-known tourist operators like

Yatragenie, Morning Star and Galada,” Joint Transport Commissioner T Raghunath said.

According to another official, there are close to 400 buses registered in Arunachal Pradesh that are being operated in Telangana.

“Majority of them are sleeper coaches and were illegally modified by extending the length of the bus by at least one metre,” he said.

Most of the buses which enter the city are being operated by travel agents from Andhra Pradesh and some border districts including Mahabubnagar and Khammam.
