Hyderabad: Hyderabad got yet another feather in its cap with the Dalai Lama Center for Ethics and Transformative Values choosing the city for establishment of its South Asia Hub. The ground breaking ceremony was performed by the exiled spiritual leader of Tibet in the presence of Governor, E.S.L. Narasimhan, Deputy Chief Minister, Muhammed Mahmood Ali and IT and Industries Minister, K. T. Rama Rao here on Sunday.

Later His Holiness delivered a public talk on “Ethics, values and wellbeing” at the Hitex open arena. About 2,000 persons turned up for the programme while several thousand others joined the web cast from all over the world.

“We are honoured that His Holiness chose Hyderabad for the South Asia Hub of the Center for Ethics and Transformative Values”, Rama Rao said and announced Rs. 5 crore support for it. He also announced donation of the site for the Hub on Hitex road.

With rapid transformations

impacting India and the whole region, it was urgent to prepare present and future leaders for the work of serving their communities, KTR remarked.
In his address, the spiritual leader expressed happiness to see the plans for establishment of the Center. “Promotion of ethics and values have never been more important in our world”, he said and added that he was delighted to see this effort taking root in India, a country he deeply admired for its longstanding tradition of ‘ahmisa and karuna’.

Ever since its inception in 2009, the Center has been a driving force in fostering individual and organizational ethics and value driven leadership across diverse institutional frameworks. Leaders from eight countries across North and Latin America, South Asia and Central Africa have participated in the Center’s ethics and values based transformative leadership programme. Over a thousand public school educators have been trained through this programme.
