The 10th edition of the Airtel Hyderabad Marathon, which will be held on December 19, will see over 6,000 participants run in marathon, half-marathon and 10k run events, the organisers said on Wednesday.
Around 5,500 have already registered for the physical run while close to 2,000 will participate in the virtual run, said Prashanth Morparia, the race director while unveiling the finisher’s medal in the city.
The event returns after a one-year Coronavirus forced hiatus and the organisers said they would conduct the 2022 Hyderabad Marathon in the regular month of August. “This time, the focus is on runners’ safety and runners’ experience. We have made all the arrangements for the smooth conduct of the event. With Covid-19 situation, we made Covid-19 negative certificate mandatory. The runner can also produce an
RT-PCR negative certificate while collecting the bib. We will ensure the covid norms like social distancing, minimum contact and use of masks at the finish line. We have restricted the registrations to 8,000 this year due to Covid,” said Prashanth.
Meanwhile, Anjani Kumar, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad also requested everyone to follow Covid protocols to stay away from the virus. “I am very happy that all the protocols are being followed. The threat of the virus is there and we all must be careful. We are not far away from the first case (of the Omicron variant) as it is inevitable. The mega events like these runs elevate the stature of a city. I also request all the corporates to take it as a responsibility to contribute their bit to make Hyderabad a global city by participating in sporting, cultural and other events,” he said.
