Health minister Eatala Rajender on Tuesday said the issue would be sorted out soon and added that NIMS would get an additional 100 beds soon.
Addressing a review meeting of district medical officers here on Tuesday, the minister said the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, which has 219 ICU beds, would be strengthened with 100 more beds in four months. “ By the end of the year, NIMS will have 450 ICU beds,” he said.
Speaking to newsmen later, the minister said the government is seized of the matter regarding the old building of OGH, which is on the verge of collapse. He said since a majority of
patients head to Gandhi Hospital, OGH and NIMS, the medical and health department is charting out new plans to reduce pressure on these hospitals.
The minister said 5,000 beds were available in government and private medical colleges and their associated hospitals in and around Hyderabad, but their capacity was not being put to use efficiently. The minister said that he set a target for all the officials to improve healthcare parameters to ensure confidence of people in public health. A review meeting with all District Medical Officers from all the districts was also held.
