Labour Minister Ch Malla Reddy on Friday inaugurated 105 surveillance cameras installed across 14 colonies of the Peerzadiguda Municipality. The project was taken up at a cost of Rs 20 lakh.
The cameras have been installed at strategic locations covering entries and exits, main routes and crime-prone areas of the colonies. As of now, there are 491 Community CCTV cameras and 5,471 cameras installed under the ‘Nenu Saitham’ initiative in Medipally, officials said, adding that in the recent past, snatching cases, a house burglary and robbery cases were detected using footage from the surveillance cameras.
Malla Reddy said it was a great initiative where citizens with
the help of police came forward and installed CCTV cameras for the security of all citizens.
Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said surveillance cameras had become an important aspect of modern day policing with a majority of cases being detected with their help.
“Almost 60 per cent of the crimes are being detected with the help of CCTV footage. As on today, a total of Rs 1.1 lakh community CCTV and Nenu Saitham cameras have been installed and geo-tagged in the Rachakonda commissionerate,” Bhagwat said, urging citizens and public representatives to come forward to install more cameras in their areas.
