The 10th anniversary of the Mecca Masjid blast passed off peacefully on Thursday, without any report of untoward incident.
Much like on a regular business day, shops and commercial establishments remained open across Old City while tourists thronged Charminar and other popular destinations.
Many people offered their Zohar prayers at Mecca Masjid, even as cops maintained strict vigil at all
public places and posted special pickets in sensitive areas.
On May 18, 2007, nine people died in a blast at Mecca Masjid and five others were killed in the subsequent police firing. Ten years hence, the dreadful recollections of that ill-fated day continued to haunt the families of the victims who remembered their loved ones and demanded that the concerned authorities hang the culprits.
