The authorities on Monday decided to install 130 CCTV cameras at the Secunderabad railway station and 59 at the Nampally station. Another 29 cameras will be installed at the Kacheguda railway station. This apart, authorities have also decided to set up baggage scanners near the entrances and enforce various rules such as lane discipline inside the railway station and removal of vehicles found parked for a long period of time.
These measures were taken during first safety review meeting of a special committee formed for the purpose and plugging existing security loopholes. The special committee that includes officials from railways, traffic police, Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway
Protection Force (RPF), Road Transport Corporation (RTC) and Hyderabad Metro rail limited (HMRL) was formed by DG Road and Railway safety ,T Krishna Prasad.
Further, chief commercial manager, south central railway, M G Sekharam, proposed introduction of prepaid auto service at the Hyderabad and Kacheguda stations to provide a safe and economical travel option to passengers.Suggestions like increasing surveillance at main entrance of Secunderabad station and shifting the bus stop's location from Chilkalguda to an appropriate place, were also listed.
The committee has now decided to meet every month to follow up on this plan.The committee will also assess the requirement of any traffic junction or signal in the surrounding areas to ease traffic flow.
