Following the Supreme Court guidelines to strictly enforce against the Motor Vehicles Act violations, the Hyderabad Traffic Police penalized over 1,800 motorists and about 500 pillion riders for not wearing helmet.
According to the traffic police, the SC Committee has recommended the pillion riders to compulsorily use headgears for their own safety, in order to reduce the road accident deaths. The



Regional Transport Authorities of Hyderabad also informed that more number of deaths in accidents involving bikes were of pillion riders. 
Traffic DCP A V Ranganath said from February 22, the traffic personnel would start enforcement against the MV Act violators in more stringent manner. So far, about 1,800 motorists without helmets have been penalised and have been counseled.
