The Telangana government on Friday issued orders for the restoration and comprehensive development of 19 urban lakes in Hyderabad, Medchal and Rangareddy districts to be taken up at an estimated Rs 282.63 crore.
The government, which is restoring all minor irrigation tanks to their original capacity across the State, accorded administrative approval for the amount in the 2018-19 fiscal under phase Mission Kakatiya Phase-IV.
The approval for 19 lakes that include Patel Cheruvu, Ambeer Cheruvu, Pedda Cheruvu and Durgam Cheruvu follows
the emphasis laid by MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao that all lakes within Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) should be cleaned and rejuvenated.
The government asked the Chief Engineer of Minor Irrigation to ensure that there are no overlaps of proposed repairs in any other previous sanctioned schemes. The Chief Engineer was also instructed to ensure sufficient funds to meet the expenditure towards Mission Kakatiya works, including sanctions considered, and take up the works in a phased manner.
