Around 19,000 passengers rode the Metro on the Ameerpet-LB Nagar stretch on Monday, the inaugural day of commercial services, as per figures provided by the L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited (LTMRHL) authorities.

The Metro authorities ran as many as 71 trips between Ameerpet and L B Nagar in both directions on Monday. Commercial operations on the stretch kicked off at 6pm on Monday, hours after the inauguration. While the first train was operated at 6pm, the last train departed at 10.30pm. 

From Tuesday, 270 trips will be run in both directions on the newly inaugurated stretch.Nearly 69,000 passengers travelled on the newly launched Ameerpet-LB Nagar route on Tuesday.

Unlike the Miyapur-Nagole route where not passengers boarded the trains during the inaugural run, many employees, self-employed citizens, women and students boarded the trains on



the Ameerpet-LB Nagar route.

According to Metro rail officials, the JBS to MGBS stretch and the Hi-Tec City stretch need to be commissioned before determining the financial status of the project.

“Works pertaining to the construction of the Metro rail till Mindspace station are at advanced stages. Manpower has been recruited and are being trained,” Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited managing director NVS Reddy said on Tuesday.

“JBS to MGBS stretch of the Metro rail, which falls along Corridor-2, will be completed by mid-2019 while all the three lines are expected to start by late 2019,” Reddy added.Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Metro rail project has been shortlisted as one of the top 10 projects across the globe by the Institution of Civil Engineers for the `Best Engineering Project of the World’ award.
