The Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department, on Thursday, organised an awareness programme at Shilpakala Vedika, to promote the use of clay Ganesha idols. School children, officials from GHMC, HMDA, PCB and other state government bodies attended the event.
Addressing the crowd at the programme, MAUD minister, K T Rama Rao, said: “Over two lakh eco-friendly Ganesh idols will be distributed in the city this year by the state government on Vinayaka Chaturthi.“ In order to make its objective successful civic bodies along
with the Pollution Control Board have decided to set up special stalls at different locations for distributing clay idols.GHMC is also constructing additional artificial ponds for the immersion of Ganesh idols. Accor ding to officials, the construction of 15 ponds will be completed before the immersion date.
There are already 10 such ponds in the city. “These ponds are being constructed at a cost of `22 crore to reduce pollution in Hussainsagar and other water bodies of the city,“ read the statement released by GHMC.
