The ruling TRS continues its winning streak and bagged majority of unanimously elected seats during first phase of ZPTC and MPTC elections. Even before the polling for first phase begins on May 6, two ZPTCs and 69 MPTCs have been elected unanimously in the State. As a result, the State Election Commission (SEC) declared that elections will be held for 195 of 197 ZPTC seats and 2,097 of 2,166 MPTC seats.
Except for two MPTC seats won by Congress, TRS bagged two ZPTC posts and 67 MPTC posts through unanimous elections where Siddipet district has highest 10 TRS MPTCs who were elected unanimously. Six MPTCs each from Mahabubabad, Kamareddy and Nizamabad districts, were also elected unanimously.
As per the fresh voters list, about 1.56 lakh crore voters are expected to exercise their vote in all three
phases over the next few days. Nalgonda district has highest number of 9.7 lakh voters, while Medchal-Malkajgiri has lowest number of 1.3 lakh votes. In all, 77.4 lakh male and 79 lakh female voters along with 354 voters of third gender are expected to cast their votes.
Meanwhile, the election campaign will come to an end on Saturday evening. The State Election Commission on Friday issued instructions to all political parties and the electronic media to ensure strict adherence to the ban on poll campaign during 48 hours prior to conclusion of the polling i.e. from 5 pm on Saturday.
Further, all non-local political leaders and party cadre have been advised to leave the areas notified for elections soon after closure of campaign period.
