24 hrs power supply to farmers of Medak

Mon 17 Jul 2017, 10:38:07
The government will supply 24-hours power in erstwhile Medak district comprising the present Sangareddy, Siddipet and Medak districts from Sunday midnight.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao announced that the government will ensure 24×7 power supply to the farm sector across Telangana from the 2018 Kharif season, and the Medak exercise is being taken up this season itself on a pilot basis to study the impact.

Mr.K Sadasiva Reddy, CGM of Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TSSPDCL), said there were 3.10 lakh agriculture connections in Sangareddy, Siddipet and Medak. Cheriyal and Husnabad, which were culled out from erstwhile Warangal and Karimnangar districts respectively and merged with Siddipet district, will also get 24-hour power supply.

Reddy said the current power consumption by the agriculture sector, which gets nine-hours supply a day, was 7

million units a day. The highest consumption was recorded at 10 million units a day during the peak of last Yasangi. Since paddy transplantation was not completed yet across the three districts, Reddy said the power consumption will not go up much immediately.

Under the nine-hour power supply arrangement, electricity officials used to alternate the supply hourly, dividing the agriculture connections equally under each 33-KV sub-station. But TSSPDCL and Transco officials were closely monitoring whether the existing sub-stations and feeders will be able to withstand the increased hours of power supply.
Siddipet SE P Karunakar Babu said they will record the power consumption on Monday and compare it with Sunday’s recordings.

Using the data, the officials will be able to estimate the power consumption by the agriculture sector during the peak kharif season in Medak district.
