Hyderabad unit of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted a search and seizure operation at a factory outlet in Basheerbagh for violation of the BIS Act-2016. 

During the raid, officials seized 2,635 hand held blenders worth approximately Rs.77 lakh, which were found to be stored and offered for sale without the mandatory BIS certification and standard mark. These products fall under IS 302(part 2/Section 14), made mandatory by the Central government through a Quality Control Order (QCO) with effect from May 1,



2019, to ensure the safety of users in household settings.


According to a statement, the absence of BIS certification is not only a violation of the law but also poses serious safety risks to consumers. The operation was conducted under the direction of PV Srikanth, Director and Head, BIS Hyderabad.

As per the Act, such violations are punishable with imprisonment of up to two years, or a fine not less than Rs.2 lakh for the first offence, and Rs.5 lakh or more for repeat offences.
