The Election Commission of India (ECI) has 28,057 applications from senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PwD) to cast their votes from home, under a facility called Form 12D. The ECI had received 44,097 applications; the rest were rejected after scrutiny.
While Balkonda topped with 707 approved applications from senior citizen and PwD voters, Zaheerabad was the lowest at 12 applications.
The returning officer would deploy polling team members, who would deliver and collect the postal ballot on pre-informed dates and thereafter deposit it with
the officer, the ECI said. The police would accompany the polling staff when they visit the elector's residences as security and voting to be held transparently.
The EC said that the elector may or may not opt for postal ballot in the acknowledgement attached with the Form12-D. If the voter opts for postal ballot, then the booth level officer (BLO) would collect the filled-in Form-12 D from their house within five days of the notification and deposit it with the returning officer
