Minister for municipal administration and urban development (MA&UD) K.T. Rama Rao, announced on Wednesday that the distribution of 2BHK houses for the underprivileged, within GHMC limits, will start in the first week of August. Rama Rao mentioned that the state government has set a target of constructing 1 lakh houses under GHMC limits, with a majority of them already completed.
Following the minister's instructions, GHMC has prepared a schedule for distributing the completed double-bedroom houses to eligible beneficiaries. The revenue department will assist in the beneficiary selection process, ensuring transparency and adherence to the guidelines
issued by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.
During a review meeting on Wednesday, Rama Rao directed GHMC officials to ensure that deserving beneficiaries receive the 2BHK houses without any political interference. He also emphasised the need to seek the cooperation of district collectors in the selection process.
To date, over 4,000 2BHK houses have been provided to the underprivileged within GHMC limits. More than 70,000 completed houses will be distributed to the poor in six phases, with additional houses in the final stages of construction being added to the distribution programme gradually.
