Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao announced this at a review meeting on the progress of the project here on Wednesday. Rama Rao said the construction was launched after plans were drawn up for 1 lakh double-bedroom houses in Hyderabad city.
The government had aimed at constructing 1 lakh dignity houses for the poor in the city, and the works were progressing. These houses would be ready to occupy by Dasara, the Minister said.
An 80 per cent of the construction works related to the housing project was completed, he said, asking officials to coordinate with other departments concerned to complete the work in other areas. The officials informed the Minister that the works were being carried out uninterrupted despite the lockdown.
The Minister, instructing the officials to complete works pertaining to drinking water and power supply at
the sites where the construction was completed, asked GHMC officials to take over the 2BHK houses after their completion. The Minister said the State government was according top priority to the project, with houses already allocated to beneficiaries in some areas.
When the officials brought to his notice the problems being faced in procuring cement, steel and sand, Rama Rao asked officials from the Municipal Administration and Housing Departments to convene a separate meeting to sort out the issue. He also asked other Ministers to take necessary steps to complete the works at other sites by Dasara.
Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Roads & Buildings and Housing Minister V Prashanth Reddy, Labour Minister C Malla Reddy, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and other officials were present.
