A total of 330 Haj Pilgrims from Telangana were selected from amongst 17,564 applicants through computerised draw of lots (Qurrah) at Haj House on Saturday.
Advisor to Government, Minorities Welfare Department, A K Khan inaugurated the draw, while Syed Omer Jaleel, Secretary to Government, Minorities Welfare attended the programme as the Chief Guest.
Speaking at the occasion, A K Khan congratulated those who were selected and assured proper facilities to the Haj pilgrims. He said that each year 10 to 15 per cent of pilgrims cancel their journey and their seats are later allotted to the pilgrims of ‘waiting list’.
He said that the list of the selected pilgrims would be posted
on the website of the Telangana State Haj Committee and the Haj Committee of India website. He further said that those who are not selected for Haj should take precautions and verify credentials while applying for a private Haj tour operator.
Syed Omer Jaleel said that he had got the opportunity to serve the Haj pilgrims in various capacities. He said that the Haj is a pious practice and an obligation on Muslims.
Prof S A Shukoor, Special Officer, Telangana State Haj Committee said that the Haj Committee had allocated a Haj quota of 3,367 seats for Telangana State. While 3,037 applicants were selected based on two reserved categories, the remaining 330 were selected through Qurrah.
