The municipal administration and urban development (MA&UD) department has suspended four engineers from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) and transferred director D. Sudarshan following the collapse of the gate and side wall at the intake well and pumping station in Sunkishala. A senior officer committee was formed to investigate the incident, which revealed technical lapses among project officers. Sudarshan has been moved to a non-focal position, with instructions to appoint a
replacement.
Suspended engineers include S. Kiran Kumar (chief general manager), B. Maria Raj (general manager), N. Prashant (deputy general manager), and K.V.P. Harish (manager). The collapse on August 2 was attributed to unexpected inflows to the Nagarjunasagar Reservoir, causing water to gush into the tunnel and resulting in the structural failure. The contractor, Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL), has been issued a notice regarding the incident.
