Over four lakh
children below the age of five years were administered the bivalent Oral Pulse
Vaccine (bOPV) in Hyderabad on Sunday.
The District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) K Padmaja said that the response from public to the immunisation drive was excellent. Public representatives including Ministers, MLAs, and Corporators actively participated in pulse polio administration programmes that were organised across the capital.
The district
administration had set up 3,062 pulse polio booths, identified 47 transit
points for polio vaccine administration and had 115 mobile teams whose focus
was to administer polio vaccine to children among the floating population.
According to Dr Padmaja, from Saturday midnight, mobile teams were despatched
to bus
terminals and railway stations to set up vaccination camps.
In all, as part of the drive, municipal and health officials had aimed aim to cover 41,57,210 children below five years in the State. To make the massive administration of pulse polio vaccination exercise a success, the administration had set up 24,570 polio booths, 773 mobile teams, and roped-in 2,455 route supervisors, 8,700 ANM workers and 27,045 ASHA workers in the State.
The Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare officials said that 50 lakh doses of bOPV were procured for pulse polio drive. Senior doctors said that special efforts were taken up to cover children of nomadic families,migrant labourers, brick-kiln workers, families employed at construction sites, fishermen, and tribal families.
