Hyderabad district electoral officer (DEO) Ronald Rose said the district election authority had deleted around 46,000 names from the voters list in 15 constituencies in Hyderabad district in the last week. They include 20,000 duplicate votes and 26,000 persons who have since died.
Speaking to the media, he appealed to the people to check their names in the electoral rolls and approach the authorities for enrollment, claims, and objections before October 31. "Eligible people whose names are missing can enroll as voters by contacting booth level officers (BLOs)," he said, adding that distribution of voter slips will start after November 10.
Rose said that they were yet to finalise the sensitive polling
stations.
As a part of MCC enforcement, 133 FIRs have been filed including four for speeches violating the code. The other enforcement activities include clearing 1.05 lakh wall posters and removing 64,666 advertisements.
Elsewhere, the Election Commission organised a meeting with assistant expenditure observers at the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office to sensitize them on the need to combat the menace of bribery of voters and other corrupt practices. Distribution of money, liquor, or any other item given to influence voting is illegal, the EC said. Officials also need to look out for surrogate advertisements, paid news, and social media.
