50,000 persons to be covered under meal scheme: KTR

The government had proposed to cover 50,000 poor persons under the Rs 5 per meal scheme. Appropriate spots where poor and construction workers gather will be identified for opening meal centers, said K T Rama Rao, Minister for Municipal Administration.

He told the Legislative Council on Friday that at present 150 meals centers were



working , benefiting 13,000 persons. The GHMC incurred Rs 39.64 crore on these centers. The government would consider extending the scheme to other municipalities, but as of now there were no such plans, KTR said.

Altaf Hyder Rizvi (Majlis) said the meal scheme should be extended to other places as well.
