To woo the voters from poor sections in the GHMC area, the Telangana State government on Monday waived off power tariff arrears amounting Rs 52.42 crore to the electricity consumers belonging to the poorer sections who had consumed up to 100 units in the domestic consumption category.
Issuing the orders to this effect, State Energy Secretary Arvind Kumar said that the consumers who had consumed more than 100 units have been given one-time opportunity to pay the actual CC (Current Consumption) charges before March 31, 2016 and accordingly the Delayed Payment Surcharge (DPS) on such amounts would be waived off.
This would help
about seven to nine lakh families in getting relief from the burden of power tariff arrears in the GHMC area. The domestic consumers in other areas (other than GHMC) with outstanding arrears are also being given a one-time opportunity to pay the actual CC only before March 31 and the DPS would be waived off. Arvind Kumar said this is to encourage all domestic consumers having arrears to come forward and clear the actual CC.
Arvind said the government’s move would help to improve the functioning of the discoms and to introduce systematic improvements to bring in greater efficiency in revenue realisation of the utilities.
