Narsingi police on Thursday seized six branded racing cars that were zooming on Kokapet road in a rash and negligent manner and at high speeds.
Reliable police sources said that the owners of all six cars were nabbed while they were racing on July 17 night.
Madhusudhan Reddy, the Narsingi traffic inspector, said that the car owners have been sent for counselling. The villagers raised an objection with Narsingi police as the reckless driving was endangering the lives of the locals.
A local resident said that the racers were driving at speeds of over 130 kmph, creating nuisance and sound pollution with the noise disturbing the peace in the village.
The locals dialled 100 and reported the matter to the central police control room. Narsinghi police immediately reached the race
venue, seized the vehicles and sent the owners for counselling.
"We have seized six cars and sent their documents to the Road Transport Authority to check whether the vehicles were allowed to ply on roads as per the M V Act," inspector V. Shiva Kumar said.
He added "We have booked a case under section 336 of IPC (endangering life or personal safety of others) and are investigating. The RTA will check the vehicle's insurance, relevant documents and NOC."
The car owners-cum-drivers were identified as Syed Majid Hussain, Rakesh Narayan, Dhanraj, Ramana and Manikanta Sharma.
Meanwhile, family members of the six racers tried to influence the police, who, however, took legal action against the six persons, police sources said.
