A seven-member gang that was illegally organising online cricket betting was caught by the Cyberabad Police Special Operations Team (SOT) on Tuesday. The police seized Rs 15.10 lakh, 11 mobile phones, three laptops and four vehicles from them.
The arrested persons were Dharam Singh (44), Ashish Kaliya (36), Manoj Kumar (42), Yogesh Singh (26), Arun Kumar Sharma (41), Mahendhar Singh (34) and Kamal Kumar Meena (32). Three others, Kashif Umair, Chandrapal and Azhar, who were allegedly the main organisers, were absconding.
Acting on a tip off, the police had raided a room in a paying guest hostel in Gachibowli and caught them while they were organising the betting. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Madhapur) M Venkateshwarlu said Dharma Singh, Ashish Kalia and Manoj Kumar were organising the betting from the hostel while others helped with online activity including
operating communicator board, laptops and connecting with punters.
“The gang was using online cricket betting apps like Live Line Guru, Cricket Buzz and Cricket Mazza for organising the betting. The bet was collected online and also directly by agents,” the DCP said.
