Seven persons including three children of a family who were getting ready to offer ‘Bonam’ suffered critical burns when gas from their LPG cylinder caught fire at their home in Valmikinagar, Domalguda.

Police said B. Padmavati, her daughter Dhanalakshmi and sister Nagulamma were preparing the offering when the gas caught fire. The door was locked from the inside.

Dhanalakshmi’s children Saranya, 6, B. Abhinav, 7, Vihaan, 5, Padmavati’s sister Nagulamma and her brother-in-law Anand were trapped inside the room, said G. Nagajyoti, their neighbour.

The intensity of the fire was more because it occurred in an unventilated room, with the door and window closed. Everything inside including furniture and the television set was gutted, said their neighbour Naresh Goud.

"I heard them screaming for help. I saw the door and a window closed and black smoke coming from

Padmavati’s house I raised an alarm and my neighbour Govind Rao and others rushed in to help. Govind Rao broke open the door and the kids ran out screaming. I poured water on them from a container," Nagajyoti said.

The women who tried to protect the kids got badly burnt. "Padmavati fell unconscious after we got her out," Nagajyoti said.

Dhanalakshmi who stays near IDPL along with her kids had come to her mother Padmavati's house to celebrate Bonalu, Venkatesh, one of their relatives, said.

Locals took them to Gandhi Hospital for treatment in ‘108’ ambulances where all of them are being treated in the burns ward. The condition of Danalakshmi and her sons Vihan and Abhinav is critical, Chikkedpally police said.

Two fire engines and DRF teams went to Valmikinagar. By then the locals extinguished had the fire.
