The process of administering free Covid-19 vaccine to people above 18 years has picked pace in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.

The Health department along with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has set up 75 mobile vaccination centres in different parts of the city especially in slums. Though the focus was on administering the free jab to the people living in slums, several people cutting across economic status, are visiting these mobile centres to get themselves vaccinated.

The administration of second dose of the vaccine at these centres is said to be one of reasons for an increase in the number of beneficiaries lining up.

“It’s not only people from economically weaker sections, but from all strata of society are visiting our centre for the vaccination,” said Wahed Ali, a GHMC employee overseeing the works at the mobile vaccination centre located in Izzat Nagar Weaker Section Colony, Madhapur. The condition was much the same in the vaccination centre set up in Raidurgam.

For the purpose of the special drive, government

schools, GHMC community halls and commercial establishments were shortlisted and these customised vans are parked there. While the health workers were vaccinating people, GHMC staff, entered their details in CoWIN app and oversaw other works. The exercise of vaccination started at 9 am and continued till 4 pm.

Most of these mobile vaccination centres were partitioned into three segments – registration desk, vaccination centre and waiting area. Post-vaccine beneficiaries were informed about the medicines that need to be taken in case of fever.

Meanwhile, GHMC in a press release said that people can dial 040 241111111– GHMC land line number to seek information.

Vaccination closer to their homes or places of work clubbed with spot registration is helping the people who are not well versed with the process of enrolling themselves in CoWIN app. Among other places, the vaccination drive on Thursday was held at Adityanagar and Bikshapathinagar in Madhapur, Ambedkar Nagar and Vinayak Nagar in Film Nagar, Riyasat Nagar and Hyder Nagar in Barkas.
