As many as eight students who failed their Intermediate exams ended their lives by suicide since the results were announced on Tuesday morning, the police said.  

While two deaths were reported in the day, in the aftermath of the results, six more deaths were recorded on Tuesday night and Wednesday, the police said, adding that their parents cited poor performance in exams as the reason.

In one instance, a 17-year-old second-year girl student studying in a private junior college died by suicide at her residence in Hastinapuram, after finding out that her younger sister had cleared her exams.

In another instance, a 17-year-old boy from Tummalla Basti in Khairatabad died by



suicide on Tuesday evening after finding out that he had failed the second-year exams. He was a student of a private junior college in Narayanaguda and had failed two subjects, the Saifabad police said.

In a third instance, a 16-year-old girl student who failed three subjects attempted to take her life at her residence in Manikonda, under the Raidurgam police limits. Although she was rushed to a hospital, she died during treatment on Wednesday morning, the police said.  

Other deaths were of a second-year boy student in Neredmet, another boy student from Patancheru and a second-year girl student from Khairatabad, the police said.
