Setting up of a separate wing, and training cops to be cyberwarriors were among some of the steps highlighted by Telangana state Director General Anjani Kumar on Wednesday while speaking at a cybersecurity event.

The top cop was addressing the second Cybersecurity Conference organised by Global Counter Terrorism Council. Speaking on the topic of National Architecture for Cyberspace management by the Telangana state government, Anjani Kumar said that Telangana state is the first state to establish a Cybersafety Bureau to investigate and prevent cybercrimes.

"Around 600 leading IT companies of the world including Microsoft are established in Hyderabad and around 10 lakh IT employees and professionals are working here. There are a significant number of cyberliterates in Hyderabad and surrounding areas," he said.

However, cybercrimes have



increased as is happening all over the world. As many as 2,691 cyber-based cases were registered in the state in 2019, 5,024 in 2020, 10,303 in 2021, and 15,217 in 2022. The Cybersecurity Bureau has been specially formed to face the challenges in cybersecurity. 500 officers and employees were appointed in this bureau set up at the Integrated Command and Control Centre, he said.

The DGP also said that cybercrime investigation teams have been formed in every district of the state. Cybercrime complaints are registered through the toll free number 1930, 100. In respect of cyber-based financial crimes Rs 65 crore have been recovered.

Large-scale awareness programmes are being conducted to face increasing threats of cybercrimes. Police officers have been trained as cyberwarriors in 800 police stations of the state," he said.
