Hyderabad: A 9-month-old infant boy was brought to the city-based Amor Hospitals with 30 to 35 percent burns after accidentally spilling boiling water. The caretakers from multiple medical specialties were able to save his life.
The infant's scalp, neck, back, both hands, and shoulder area were burned. Second-degree mixed burns with superficial and deep dermal burns were discovered during examination. The infant was immediately admitted to the hospital's burns isolation unit, where treatment
began.
Dr. Abhinandan Badam, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, stated, "One of the key lifesaving interventions in the early care of burn patients is fluid resuscitation; delayed or inadequate resuscitation can cause organ failure and death." With the assistance of the pediatrician and the critical care team, fluid resuscitation was carried out with strict monitoring of the urine output and other parameters. In addition, broad-spectrum intravenous antibiotics were administered to stop the spread of the infection, according to Dr. Abhinandan.
