The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s EVDM wing on Monday sealed 91 establishments and educational institutions for violating government orders to shut operations till March 21 as a means to contain the spread of coronavirus.
This apart, notices are being served to shopping malls, supermarkets and other establishments to initiate measures like thermal screening to curtail the virus.
Despite government orders, these 91 establishments, including 13 gymnasiums, 34 coaching centres, three fitness studios, two swimming pools, two schools, four bars and restaurants, etc. were continuing their operations and were sealed immediately, EVDM Director Viswajit Kampati said.
These establishments and institutions will remain sealed at least till March 21 and future course of action will depend on the government’s instructions, he said, adding that the EVDM wing had set up 18 special teams to crack down on those violating government
orders.
In the wake of coronavirus threat, the government had issued orders to educational institutions to remain closed till March 31 and to a few establishments like cinema halls, bars and restaurants, gyms, parks, etc. to shut operations till March 21.
Though, shopping malls and supermarkets are permitted to remain open, as a precautionary measure, they are supposed to take a few measures as there will be public gathering. The managements have to screen visitors entering their premises with thermal screening devices and spray disinfectants and sanitise the premises at regular intervals, he said.
Mayor Bonthu Rammohan said GHMC would launch a special drive from Wednesday to check sanitation and other measures at hotels, restaurants and other places and initiate action accordingly. As a precautionary measure, biometric attendance system in the city has been suspended for a few days, he said.
