A 20-year-old woman ends life after harassment by husband over dowry in Hyderabad

A 20-year-old woman who allegedly consumed a poison due to harassment by her in-laws and husband 10 days ago died on Thursday.

According to the police, S Surekha (20) was married to Vijay in August 2020 and they were living at Balapur crossroads under the Meerpet police station limits. On March 5, there was a quarrel between the couple when Vijay asked her to bring money from her



parents.

“Later in the night, she consumed poison and was rushed to Osmania General Hospital where she died on Thursday while undergoing treatment,” Meerpet police said.

Relatives told the police that 12 tolas of gold and Rs.10 lakh was given to Vijay at the time of the wedding. However, he later began demanding money for starting a business and was torturing Surekha, whose family recently gave him Rs.30,000.
