A 28-year-old woman died due to alleged medical negligence during a tubectomy at a private hospital in Kalapathar, wherein the surgeon mistakenly cut the small intestine instead of the fallopian tube, leading to her death.
The hospital management was booked for causing death due to negligence.
The police identified the victim as Reshma Begum, who underwent surgery at Sakina Hospital on December 17, complained of vomiting and died while undergoing treatment at Owaisi Hospital around 9.30 pm on Monday.
The victim’s husband, Mohammed Abdul Ali, a scrap dealer, said she decided on a family planning operation on his elder sister’s advice.
As she was constantly vomiting following her surgery, Ali took her to the hospital on December 18 as well,
but doctors, instead of revealing the facts, insisted that the couple sign some agreements and also recorded a video of the same.
After taking Reshma to a diagnostic centre in Shadnagar, a doctor there said that her small intestine had been cut during the tubectomy.
She was a resident of Islampura Basti in Farooqnagar of Shamshabad. She is survived by her husband and their four children.
Based on a complaint from the victim’s family members, the police registered a case under Section 304 (A) of the IPC against the hospital management.
The victim’s body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for an autopsy on Tuesday and later handed over to the family.
