In protest against the Osmania University administration decision to ban protests on the campus, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has called for the university bandh on Monday.
The ABVP student activists protested on the campus, burning the circular copies issued by the administration at Arts College here on Sunday.
ABVP national executive member and Telangana Universities coordinator Jeevan charged that the circular to impose a ban on protests was undemocratic and reflected the dictatorship attitude of the Vice Chancellor.
Noting that the university
has been the birthplace for numerous movements starting with Vande Mataram to the first and second phases of Telangana agitation for statehood, Jeevan criticised the university administration circular, accusing the Vice Chancellor of stifling students’ democratic rights. The circular was a conspiracy to curtail students from raising their voice against lack of funds, faculty recruitment, quality education and substandard food, he alleged.
“We have called for OU bandh on Monday. If the university does not revoke the circular in the next 24 hours, we will call for a Chalo Assembly programme,” Jeevan added.
