The Telangana High Court Advocates’ Association on Tuesday resolved to abstain from work from courts till Saturday.
The lawyers are up in arms against the decision of the Apex Court Collegium in recommending transfer of the senior most Telangana puisne judge Justice P V Sanjay Kumar to the Punjab and Haryana High Court. It was pointed out that while some States had multiple representatives of Chief Justices in different High Courts, there has not been a single judge from Telangana since the elevation of R Subash Reddy to the Supreme Court. Justice Sanjay Kumar’s elevation under normal norms is long
overdue. Lawyers pointed out how at least three judges appointed after him have now been named Chief Justices.
It also pointed out that the action was punitive for not towing the line of the powers that be. It is pointed out that the judge was suffering the ignominy of being placed as a junior judge in the Punjab and Haryana HC because of his integrity.
Pointing to the reasons stated by the Collegium “better administration of justice”, a counsel wondered whether it was administration in Punjab and Haryana or Telangana.
