The Afghan Consulate in Hyderabad has initiated a unique Afghan Food Festival in the city on Thursday. The food festival also aims to increase trade and cultural exchanges between Telangana and Afghanistan.
The event was kicked off with a video titled ‘Salaam Namaste’ produced by CD Foundation, a Delhi-based NGO and was followed by a Kathak performance by an Indian dance troupe and a Qarsak, a traditional Afghani dance form based in the Panjsher province of the country, by Afghan performers. This was in addition to a soulful musical performance by Haider Sharif, an Afghan student.
A highlight of the inaugural
event was a fashion show by Afghan designer Nadia Kakar, who showcased the rich, vibrant attires of various tribes of the nation. Students of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) modelled for the same.
The Consulate, headed by Consul General Muhammad Suleman Kakar, said, “India has supported Afghanistan extensively and we are grateful for it. I hope this event strengthens our ties and also gives Hyderabad a glimpse of Afghanistan.”
The festival also features various stalls with Afghan dry-fruits, handicrafts, jewelry and more till April 10.
