The Metro Rail works in the Old City are all set to begin with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, along with the Metro Rail officials, inspecting the route on Saturday. Hyderabad Metro Rail managing director N.V.S. Reddy explained to Mr Owaisi that the existing width of the road from Dar-ul-Shifa to Shalibanda is generally 60 feet and from Shalibanda to Falaknu-ma, it is generally 80 feet.
Mr Reddy informed him that the GHMC has prepared Road Development Plan (RDP) for 100 feet widening. He briefed them that five Metro stations are being
planned in the Old City, which are Salarjung Museum station, Charminar station, Shalibanda station, Shamsheergunj station and Falaknuma station.
Although the alignment is about 500 metres away from Salarjung Museum and Charminar, the stations close to them are so named in view of the importance of these two historic structures, he said. The managing director said the tentative locations of the stations and the technical requirements of Metro viaduct alignment and station design in terms of minimum curvature and gradient to Mr Owaisi.
