The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has almost completed the distribution of PPE safety kits to its sanitary and entomology workers.
Last week, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao had launched the distribution of the safety kits to the entomology and sanitation staff. The municipal corporation is spending about Rs 13 crore for distribution of the kits to 22,000 sanitary workers and 2,500 entomology workers.
Each kit distributed to entomology workers is worth Rs 6,710 and contains 56 masks, two pairs of gloves, sanitiser bottle, six litres of coconut oil, 36 soaps, one bath towel, one pair of shoes, one cap, one rain coat and a GHMC jacket. The kits for sanitary workers cost Rs 4,100 each (females) and Rs 4,300 (males).
Though, the
municipal corporation used to distribute gloves and soaps in the past, this is the first time that it is distributing all the required safety commodities in a kit to sanitary and entomology workers.
GHMC Chief Entomologist, Rambabu said distribution of safety kits to entomology and sanitary workers was being taken up zone-wise. The distribution exercise was almost completed, he said.
Meanwhile, Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy distributed these kits to workers and also participated in the ‘Sunday 10 AM – 10 minutes’ sanitation programme organised at Chitra Layout, RK Puram of Saroornagar here on Sunday. The Minister spoke to the colony residents on the importance of clearing stagnant water as a means to control the mosquito menace in the city.
