All major knee replacement surgeries covered under Aarogyasri health insurance will be conducted in government hospitals, Health Minister, T Harish Rao on Sunday said.

At a consultation meet on ways to improve specialty orthopaedic care with senior orthopaedic surgeons from private and government hospitals, Harish Rao directed officials to take immediate measures to roll-out specialty orthopaedic services across all tertiary government hospitals.

“Enough budgetary allocation is available for all government hospitals. We have allocated Rs. 500 to upgrade medical infrastructure, Rs. 500 crore for medicines, Rs. 300 crore for maintenance of equipment and Rs. 1250 crore for overall development of government hospitals,” he said.

The State government has recently procured 56 C-arm medical imaging devices that

are used in orthopaedic surgeries. The Superintendents of tertiary government hospitals must cooperate and work in tandem with orthopaedic surgeons, the Minister said adding there is enough scope to offer all major orthopaedic surgeries under Aarogyasri in government hospitals.

“We have experienced doctors and it is critical that ideal conditions are created in government hospitals so that they can perform at their best. Healthcare workers with commitment and passion will be recognised and honoured,” he said.

Senior orthopaedic surgeons including Dr A V Gurava Reddy from Sunshine Hospitals, Dr Akhil Dadi from Srikara Hospitals, Dr Surya Prakash, Dr Nithin, Dr Praveen, Directors and Superintendents of all Tertiary Hospitals in Telangana and senior health officials were present
