Hyderabad: Two prestigious welfare schemes of the State government, ‘Amma Vodi’ and ‘KCR Kits’, both aimed at improving mother and child health in Telangana, are set to be launched on State Formation Day on June 2.

While the ‘Amma Vodi’ scheme involves direct cash transfer to individual accounts of pregnant women in the State, the KCR kits are aimed at providing 16 vital items necessary to keep newborn babies (neonates) warm and hygienic.

To ensure that the scheme is effectively implemented and the cash transfer reaches eligible pregnant women, the authorities have decided to launch an Aadhar-based Mother and Child Tracking System (MCTS) software, which will

enable healthcare workers to track women at every stage of pregnancy.

Under the ‘Amma Vodi’ scheme, the government is aiming to cover 2.5 lakh pregnant women in the State with each woman to receive Rs 12,000. An additional Rs 1,000 will be provided in case the newborn is a girl. The government is also procuring close to 2.5 lakh KCR kits each costing Rs 2,000.

The Rs 12,000 cash transfer will be made in three stages with beneficiaries receiving Rs 4,000 each during the first visit to a government hospital after conceiving, during delivery in a State-run hospital and after getting discharged, to meet the expenses for the child’s vaccination.
